Ridge Vineyards was started by four Stanford research scientists in 1962. Their 1971 Montebello Cabernet won 5th place in the Judgement of Paris in 1976. Since then Ridge has continued to produce single-vineyard, organic and sustainable wines. They call their winemaking approach "pre-industrial", and believe that modern additives and industrial processing cannot improve wine quality. They do not use any commercial enzymes or nutrients - allowing Ridge Wines to showcase the natural beauty of the wines from these heritage California sites.
